Services : Adult Programs
We are doing our part to offer a solution to the literacy (and workforce!) challenges by offering many programs to serve adults throughout the community.
Our programs are entirely learner-centered. We focus specifically on the needs of the individual to assist them in achieving personal goals.
Contact us by phone or e-mail if you are interested in learning more about our services.
Adult Basic Literacy
This program provides basic reading, writing, and math help to adults who want to improve their skills in order to get a job, work on a GED®, or achieve other personal goals.
We offer small classes throughout the year that maximize learning, provide a safe place to practice, and offer the opportunity to meet other people learning the same things.
We also offer one to one tutoring. Adults are matched with a trained volunteer tutor and commit to meeting each week with the tutor for at least two hours. Students and tutors meet at a public location at a time that fits into both schedules.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Tutoring
This program helps adults learn to speak, read, and write English. ESOL students may work with a tutor or in a small group setting to achieve the writing and speaking skills to communicate with others.
Family Literacy
LWNY teaches families to learn together through programs for parents and their children with events held throughout the year at schools and other public venues. These events promote such activities as reading to children, visiting the library, and fostering a lifelong love of reading.

Work Readiness
The National Work Readiness Credential enables job seekers to be well prepared to enter the workforce with the necessary skills to succeed on the job. A national credential is awarded upon successful completion of the program.
Financial Literacy
Financial literacy workshops are offered throughout the year to prepare students to better manage their money, overcome debt, and develop a financial plan. Topics include banking basics, checking, credit and borrowing, saving and goal setting, safety and security, and home ownership.
Health Literacy
Health literacy workshops help students understand health information and how to use that information to make good decisions about health and medical care. Topics include health and wellness issues, nutrition, understanding instructions on prescription drug bottles, following doctor's directions, and navigating the complex health care system.
